Sayed Haidar al-Hojat Bahar ul-Uloom was born in Najaf, Iraq. He comes from a scholarly family from both the father’s and mother’s sides. His grandfathers are the late Grand Ayatollah Sayed Mohammed Baqir al-Hojat Bahar al-Aloom who is buried in the shrine of Imam al-Rida (peace be upon him), and is considered one of the greatest ulema of our time and Ayatollah Sayed Mohammed Bahar al-Aloom, one of the most influential ulema in Najaf currently. His family suffered great persecution under Saddam, with more than 20 scholars in his family becoming shaheed, his family was forced to leave. After Najaf, the family had to move to Kuwait and from there to different parts of the world. In 1987, the family settled in Detroit, MI in the USA.He obtained a degree in Theoretical Mathematics from Wayne State University while at the same time pursuing studies, through correspondence, with the Hawza in Qum . He is currently pursuing a degree in Islamic Law while also working as an Information Technology Architect with expertise in Security Systems. He currently serves as Vice Chairman for the Liason Office of Ayatollah Al Uzma Sistani.
